A tale from Ossie to A Land Down Under!

From Oswaldtwistle the land of Gobbiners to a Land Down Under! It all started back in 2004, when a very understanding friend and boss encouraged me to follow my dreams and do what was right for me for once! She encouraged me to apply for a visa and begin the long process of applying for a new life in Australia. Some months later, 9 to be precise after interviews and medicals, i was able to leave my job at Sunny Salford and of course my friends and pack my bags for the flight to Oz! But not before having a few parties with the good old folks from Oswaldtwistle and leaving my family and friends for a new life Down Under! I managed to do something really stupid on the day I was flying and get up at ridiculous O'clock and have to repack all my things. I then was lucky enough for my best friend from primary school to come and see me from up the Lakes with her family. Good on you Carley! Then it was time to say bye to mum, dad, Brendan, Jac, Mark, Josh, Lewis, Katie and Keeley and everyone else who came to the house to make sure i was actually leaving for the airport. This was a Saturday, and I eventually landed in Sydney on the 18th July 2005 very tired and grumpy, with no way of getting from the airport to what was to be my new home and Family! After 2 days and very little Sleep!

A New Life or A Big Mistake!

God what was I thinking? The flight was really long and tiring and when I finally arrived in Sydney and had to figure out how to get from the Airport to Westmead without being ripped off by taxi drivers I was able to negotiate a good deal and at least arrive in style by organising a limo to take me to my new abode. The trip was depressing and in rush hour traffic, I was so glad I didnt have to drive myself. It took about an hour and then I had to find the hospital accommodation complex, when I got here, I just wanted to cry, as it looks really old and bad from the outside (you know like the old Butlins) well that is what it reminded me of! Inside wasnt much better basic furniture and a small kitchen and then I had to figure out which was my room as my flat mates were all at work. I was met by a empty room and all I wanted to do was sleep, but I had to go and buy bedding. By 3 pm I was wrecked and fell fast asleep and woke around 9 to the sound of someone in the living room watching T.V. I was faced with a dilema of needing the loo and my new flatmates not knowing I had arrived. So after spending a penny I meet one of the new people i was to be living with. Lucky for me she turned out to be one of the nicest most caring people I have ever met!

Unit 147

When I first arrived after a week of finding my feet, I was starting to feel at Home at least in 147! There were still decorations hanging up from christmas but at least it gave the place a bit of character! Well that and the people i was living with. There are numerous stains on the carpet, which tell a tale from past and present occupants of 147 and yes I have contributed to some of them, however not all! The people are just as colourful, Jeanette, Anne and Pandorah! Each of them responsible for helping me to realise the new me and encouraging me to be me! (But dont blame them!) These are the people that know me the best espaecially Jeanette! Which could be dangerous in a way. I better never upset her as she is taking care of Suck a Thumb!

The People Of Unit 147!

Being a staff accommodation complex people come and go all the time, some due to short contracts others due to relocationg or family commitments but since I moved in to 147 in July 2005 there as been numerous people coming and going. Here are the people of 147!!! Anne Herrick: RN and good friend took me under her wings a gaurdian angel in disguse, who helped me to adjust and as offered me many a good advise. You welcomed me into your family for that I am grateful. You always know how to cheer up a room. Thank you and for the hugs you are always willing to give when everone is needed! Jeanette Hopley ( Kermit): Very good friend who knows way to much! Probably the only person who knows the real me. The past me and the person I have become. The kind of person you would want as family, in fact the best kind of family the family you choose. Thanks for being there for me when I need you and for letting me stay with you up at Newie, thanks for introducing me to a new way of life and for supporting my choices but being there in case I fall. I even wrote this in your favourite colour! Pandorah Adonis: RN and my surrogate mum. You are a wonderful person. You taught me how to dance the South African way! Anne, Jeanette and Pandorah I love you guys! Maggie: Rn who didnt stay long, but who could blame her. To move from Byron Bay to Westmead, I would have gone back also! Petra Wisse: RN, what a time we had, well at least when i got to Know you! I don't feel bad typing this as you know what I thought of you when you first moved in. Yes you were aprubt and not the easiest person to get aloong with but after a while things became easier, I just put it down to the fact that you were Dutch! But on a serious note I miss you why did you leave and when are you coming back? 147 needs you and so do the babies! Nayana: Dr. sorry forgot your surname but you were fun and a good person to have around especially when someone hits there head. You were only here for 10 weeks and then headed upto Newie with your family. Mary Geetha: Dental student quite to begin with and the person who is responsible for my eyebrows. You are a great person and your brothers curries are the best. Glad you only moved to Randwick as you are a handy person to visit close to the beach. The Dr. who only stayed for one night. You made a great impression. I hope you didnt leave cause I told you I was old enought to make my own decision on whether or not to eat my breakfast, well it was your loss you never got to see what a great place 147 is! Lina (Nusrat Zahan) Dr. and a wonderful person. Thanks for teaching us more about your culture and for living with us before you get married. Hope married life is as you dream it, and if not there will always be room for you here, even if you just need a night away! Looking forward to taking you for your first manicure and pedicure. Meegan Williams: RN, student Midwife and crazy person. How do you cope with the traveling?
